The Tennessee Volunteers are in the market for a new starting quarterback for the 2026 season, and the transfer portal is starting to get crowded with some notable names looking for new football homes. Florida QB DJ Lagway joined the fray on Monday, announcing his departure from the Gators in a relatively surprising move.
However, another name has come up that’s one to keep an eye on in Knoxville – Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby. The Bearcats’ 2025 starting signal caller is entering the portal after a strong season.
And Sorsby has previously mentioned Neyland Stadium as a place that he would most like to play a game as a visitor.
Cincinnati QB Brendan Sorsby, who gave Tennessee and Neyland kudos back in July, is entering the transfer portal
Sorsby was asked back in July at the Big 12 media days where he’d most like to play a road game if he could choose.
“I’d say Tennessee,” Sorsby said. “I got to go to a couple of games growing up. Really cool atmosphere. It would be a fun place to play for sure. Big stadium, usually sold out.”
Sorsby earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2025 for the Bearcats. He threw for 2800 yards (61.6% completion percentage) with 27 touchdowns and 5 interceptions this season.
We’ll see in the coming days and weeks were things shake out for Sorsby and the rest of the transfer portal entrants. It appears as though Texas Tech and Indiana could be schools to watch for Sorsby, per ESPN’s Max Olson.
But there’s no doubt that Neyland Stadium draws a level of intrigue with Sorsby. Now we’ll have to wait and see if it would be enough if Josh Heupel and Tennessee come calling shortly.
