Penn State football adding receivers coach Noah Pauley: Reports

Penn State football is adding one of the most highly-regarded wide receivers coaches in the nation to its new staff.

Head coach Matt Campbell is hiring former Iowa State assistant Noah Pauley, according to national reports, including 247Sports.

Pauley, 36, spent three years coaching receivers under Campbell, including the 2024 season in which he tutored two 1,100-yard wideouts.

Pauley was named the top receivers coach in the nation by FootballScoop.com and reportedly interviewed for the San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator job.

He will replace Marques Hagans, who oversaw Penn State struggling receivers’ room the past few seasons. No PSU wideouts totaled more than 452 receiving yards in 2025 and the group was infamously shut out in January’s College Football Playoff semifinal loss to Notre Dame.

It is still unclear who will coach Penn State’s receivers leading up to and in the Dec. 27 Pinstripe Bowl vs. Clemson.

Pauley impressed at Iowa State after a highly-successful stint leading receivers at national championship-winning North Dakota State. There, he won a pair of FCS titles, in part, by developing current Green Bay Packers receiver Christian Watson, the No. 34 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Pauley began his coaching career at Division II Minnesota-Duluth, where he was a national champ and a four-year standout receiver.

He joins three other former Iowa State assistants on Campbell’s PSU staff so far: Taylor Mouser (offensive coordinator), Ryan Clanton (offensive line coach) and Deon Broomfield (defensive secondary coordinator).

Off-field staffers moving from Iowa State to PSU include general manager Derek Hoodjer, director of player personnel Trent Slattenow and strength and conditioning coach Reid Kagy.
