Sooners earn a bump in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after Bedlam Win

The Oklahoma Sooners are 11-1 on the season coming off of a top 25 win over the Oklahoma State Cowgirls inside the Paycom Center. After their dominating Bedlam win, the Sooners moved up one spot to No. 8 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
The Coaches Poll’s top seven remains the same from a week ago. Defending national champion UConn leads way at 10-0 on the season, followed by the Texas Longhorns, who are 12-0, South Carolina, UCLA, and LSU. The Tigers are one of nine teams in this week’s coaches poll that are undefeated.
Sitting just in front of the Sooners is Maryland and TCU. Neither team has lost a game this season. Oklahoma’s only loss came to No. 4 UCLA in a neutral-site game in Northern California.
Though the SEC doesn’t own the top spot, it’s still the toughest conference in the land with three teams in the top five, four in the top 10, and nine teams represented in the top 25. The Sooners fared well in SEC play last season, finishing fourth in the conference. But with a younger team, the challenge will be even steeper.
Oklahoma has just one more nonconference tune-up on Dec. 22 before opening SEC play with the Texas A&M Aggies on Jan. 1. Here’s a look at the full USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll.
