A former Auburn quarterback is searching for a new home after spending last season in the Sun Belt Conference.
Pete Nakos of On3 reports that former Auburn quarterback Holden Geriner will enter the transfer portal once the window opens on Jan. 2. He announced his intent to transfer away from Auburn last December, and spent the 2025 season with Texas State, where he appeared in one game. In the Bobcats' loss to James Madison on Oct. 28, he rushed for 10 yards on two carries while not completing his only pass attempt. He sat behind quarterback Brad Jackson, who passed for 3,050 yards and 18 touchdowns in head coach GJ Kinne's air raid system.
Geriner played 63 snaps for Auburn during his three seasons on the Plains, where he completed 9-of-20 passes for 116 yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception. The most action he saw during his time in Auburn was as a redshirt freshman in 2023, when he appeared in five games. He completed 2-of-2 passes for 59 yards in the Tigers' win over UMass and went 2-of-7 for 8 yards against Texas A&M. He joined fellow Auburn quarterbacks Hank Brown and Walker White by entering the transfer portal at the conclusion of the 2024 season. Mixing those departures with senior Payton Thorne, the Tigers were left to rebuild their quarterback room ahead of the 2025 season, which they did with Jackson Arnold, Ashton Daniels, and Deuce Knight.
Geriner was the third-highest-rated signee of Auburn's 2022 class, trailing JD Rhym and Robert Woodyard. He was the No. 14 quarterback of the class and the No. 26 player from Georgia out of Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Georgia.
