Three weeks ago, at the beginning of Big Ten Championship Week and right before National Signing Day, chaos took over the Buckeyes program.
They were fresh off their huge win over the Michigan Wolverines, and the vibes around the program were sky high as they prepared for a huge Signing Day class and a Big Ten Championship. Then, Brian Hartline announced that he accepted the job as the new head coach of the USF Bulls, literally hours before five-star Chris Henry Jr. was making his decision.
The fallout of the announcement was that Henry Jr. paused his official decision and basically reopened his recruitment after learning of Hartline's departure.
Down south, four-star athlete Legend Bey experienced a similar flip. It was announced weeks before that he flipped his commitment from Tennessee to Ohio State. Then, on Signing Day, he flipped back to the Volunteers.
However, his story was a bit different as it was allegedly his mom who blocked his commitment to Ohio State.
Well, today, Bey turned 18 and rescinded his commitment to Tennessee and officially signed with Ohio State.
The Buckeyes turned what was a disaster situation into yet another amazing class. Bey's commitment to Ohio State is a great reminder to everyone that the Buckeyes are, and will always be, bigger than just one guy.
Many thought that Hartline's departure was the first crack in the Buckeyes' dam. They had been so rock solid as a program under Day's tenure, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Hartline was a major reason for that and was a major reason why the Buckeyes have become Wide Receiver U.
When he left, it was the the first real tremor in the program in a long time.
Then, the dust settled, and everyone remembered what it means to be a Buckeye. Henry Jr. needed a couple of days just to confirm that he wanted to be a Buckeye, and Bey was able to make the flip after his 18th birthday.
Ohio State officially submitted the #6-ranked recruiting class in this cycle, according to Rivals. They are behind USC, Alabama, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Georgia. Their class comprises of just one five star, 17 four stars, and nine three stars.
This class became a nice foundational class for the Buckeyes, one that they will be able to take the baton of the next era of Ohio State success.
They will have their option for how they want to use Bey's talents. Regardless of where he is deployed, he is now a part of one of the greatest programs in America.
