Kewan Lacy injury update as Ole Miss football RB exits CFP game vs Tulane

OXFORD — Ole Miss football starting running back Kewan Lacy exited the College Football Playoff game against Tulane for a second time with an injury. He has not returned.

The injury occurred late in the second quarter with the No. 6 seed Rebels (11-1) leading the No. 11 Green Wave 17-3 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Dec. 20. Lacy caught a 7-yard pass from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss but was slow to get up after the tackle. Lacy was able to walk off the field on his own power, but was pointing to his left shoulder/chest area.

He returned to the game on the first play of the third quarter, but appeared to reaggravate it. Lacy went back into the medical tent late in the third quarter before walking to the locker room.

According to the TV broadcast at halftime, Lacy was offered a harness for his shoulder but declined.

Lacy had five carries in the third quarter before exiting for the second time.

Ole Miss football depth chart

Logan Diggs and Damien Taylor are Lacy’s backups on the Ole Miss depth chart. Diggs scored a 3-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Lacy entered the game with 1,279 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns.

The Missouri transfer had 15 carries for 87 yards and a touchdown before exiting in the third quarter, in addition to the 7-yard catch.
