Staying Put: Texas DE Hero Kanu to return to Texas Football

Texas Longhorns defensive tackle Hero Kanu is expected to return in 2026 for his final season of eligibility, according to OnTexasFootball. The 6-foot-5, 299-pounder from Santa Margarita Catholic School in Germany has one year of eligibility left.

Kanu, who transferred to the Longhorns from Ohio State after the 2024 season, led Texas defensive tackles in snaps with 435. He had 30 tackles on the year, with four for a loss, two sacks, four quarterback hurries and one pass break up.

Before signing with the Buckeyes, Kanu was discovered in Germany at age 15 by former college football player, Brandon Collier. Kanu moved to California to play high school football and ended up a consensus four-star ranked No. 129 nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings for the 2022 recruiting class.

Kanu signed with Ohio State after taking official visits to Georgia, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma, and boasting an offer list that also included Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC, among others.
