LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane is officially a unanimous first-team All-American selection. He earned the nod from the Football Writers Association of America, Associated Press, Walter Camp, Sporting News and the American Football Coaches Association.
One of 13 players nationally to earn the honor in 2025, Delane recorded one of the best seasons on record for the Tigers. He transferred after three years at Virginia Tech and immediately made an impact in Baton Rouge.
The last player from LSU to receive the five first-team All-American selections was wide receiver Malik Nabers and 2023. Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase also accomplished the feat. Delane is the 14th player to do so in program history.
Here are the four LSU defensive backs who earned unanimous first-team All-American selections.
Mansoor Delane
Delane was the SEC's top-graded corner with a 90.9 defensive grade. His passer rating when targeted is 27.5 as he allowed just 13 catches this season. Over 11 games in 2025, he totaled 45 tackles, 13 pass deflections, 11 pass breakups and two interceptions.
A finalist for the Jim Thorpe award, Delane declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. He's projected as a first-round selection following his lone season donning the purple and gold.
Grant Delpit
Delpit was a unanimous All-American in 2018 as a sophomore. He also earned a first-team All-SEC nod, this first of his career. He led the SEC with five interceptions and finished No. 2 in the conference with 14 passes defensed.
A versatile weapon, Delpit added 74 tackles, including 9.5 for loss and five sacks, nine pass breakups and four quarterback hurries. In the upset win over No. 2 Georgia during Week 7, he made seven tackles, including one for loss, and forced a fumble. The following year, Delpit won the Jim Thorpe award and played a major role in the Tigers' run to winning the national championship.
Morris Claiborne
Claiborne received a unanimous All-American selection in 2011, his junior year. Through 14 games, he totaled 51 tackles, six pass breakups and six interceptions en route to winning the Jim Thorpe award and leading the Tigers to the SEC championship. He was the No. 6 overall pick to the Dallas Cowboys following the season.
The country's leader with 173 interception return yards, Claiborne was also a gifted kick and pick returner. He took a kickoff 99 yards to the house against West Virginia and also returned a pick six for 45 yards against Georgia in the SEC championship game.
Patrick Peterson
A year prior to Claiborne's breakout season, Peterson embarked on a unanimous first-team All-American campaign of his own. During that season in 2010, he also won the Jim Thorpe award and the Bednarik award, given to the nation's top defender. He also took home the SEC's defensive player of the year award.
Peterson finished the season with 42 tackles, including 1.5 for loss, six pass breakups, four interceptions and a quarterback hurry. He also returned punts, finishing first in the SEC and fourth nationally with 16.1 yards per return.
