Report: Special Teams Coordinator Justin Lustig Remaining At Penn State

Yesterday, Matt Campbell reportedly filled his defensive coordinator vacancy with D’Anton Lynn. Today, Matt Campbell is reportedly filling the special teams coordinator role by retaining Justin Lustig from the previous staff.

Lustig is a highly-respected special teams coordinator who just completed his second season with the Nittany Lions. In a year that was marred by not living up to expectations on offense or defense, Lustig’s special teams units were wonderful, finishing the season ranked 5th according to SP+ and 1st according to ESPN’s FPI efficiency ratings.

Kicker Ryan Barker (18-19 on FGs, only miss from 50+) and punter Gabriel Nwosu (averaged 46 yards-per-punt) were highlights from the special teams unit that was mostly flawless on the season. While Nwosu is out of eligibility, I’m sure keeping Barker around for 2026 and beyond will be of the utmost importance for Lustig now that he is (reportedly) officially back in Happy Valley.
