On Tuesday night, USC suffered a heartbreaking 30-27 overtime loss to TCU in the Alamo Bowl. With the defeat, the Trojans finished their 2025 campaign with a record of 9-4.
USC had TCU backed up in overtime. The Horned Frogs faced 3rd and 20 from the 35-yard line and were in a difficult position. The best-case scenario for TCU seemed to be a 7- or 8-yard checkdown to get into more manageable field goal range and kick a medium-length field goal just to tie and force double overtime. Sure enough, TCU did throw a checkdown, but it turned into a 35-yard game-winning touchdown due to four missed tackles by USC defenders near the sideline.
Following the defeat, numerous former USC players voiced their frustrations with head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans on social media. Here are some of the highlights:
Burn it all down
Lol please leave the whole defense in San Antonio 🤦🏾♂️

Not close
Respect is earned, not given and I can care less about whose ego gets hurt and who doesn’t like what I gotta say. THIS SHIT IS EMBARRASSING and no we’re not “one play away” … Not even close ! Another year goes by and yet we’re marching in the same ole place of above avg football…

Do they even practice?
Do y’all ever practice tackling ever or is it always about offense?

Offensive regression
Except I will add this. It’s alarming to see how clueless Riley looks at times. He has regressed so much, especially in play calling. For 11 mil a year, and for offense to be his “forte,” it’s become very sad.
