The love for Ohio State football runs deep in Buckeye Nation, not just for fans, but for former players as well. They put their blood, sweat, and tears into helping build the program to a championship level, so it’s understandable that they, too, want to see OSU football hold that standard.
Fresh off a loss to the Miami Hurricanes in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, one former Buckeye is letting his voice be heard about one position group in particular. Former Ohio State and current NFL star Garrett Wilson shared his thoughts on the Ohio State kicking game, which has not been up to par for the past several years. After waking up on New Year’s Day with the realization that things could’ve been different, Wilson made a plea to find the best and bring him to Columbus.
Of course, a game never comes down to one single play or player, but the numbers don’t lie. Missed field goals in games against Missouri (2023 Cotton Bowl), Oregon (2024), Michigan (2 in 2024), Indiana (2025 Big Ten Championship), and Miami (2025 CFP quarterfinal) all had an undeniable impact on the outcome of the game. It may not have guaranteed victories, but the extra points on the board change the complexion of the game and would have certainly put OSU in a better position to win.
I just woke up , it is 2026. We gotta have the best kicker onna continent in Columbus from here on out… #GoBucks

We get it … Missed field goals are part of the game. However, what seemed to become a recurring pattern was never addressed. It has become a glaring problem in the Ryan Day era, one that must be addressed before next season. Buckeye Nation has been clamoring for change for a long time. Maybe the urging of a former player will move the needle.
