BATON ROUGE — Make it two wide receivers out of the transfer portal for LSU football and Lane Kiffin.
Old Dominion transfer wide receiver Tre Brown committed to the Tigers on Monday, joining Hawaii transfer Jackson Harris as the newest LSU wide outs. Brown, who announced the move on Instagram, was the third player LSU received a commitment from out of the portal Monday, following Utah running back Raycine Guillory and Pitt transfer Malachi Thomas.
Kiffin and his staff have landed four players through the portal and will only bring in more as the days tick by.
Offense appears to be at the top of the priority list for LSU’s new staff as all four transfers are offensive playmakers.
Why WR Tre Brown picked LSU football out of transfer portal
After opening his collegiate career at a junior college followed by joining a Group of Five team, Brown now tries his hand at the highest level of the sport. How he played at Old Dominion afforded him the chance to seek out an opportunity for bigger programs.
LSU has what Brown was searching for in an offensive minded coach in a Power Four league that prioritizes his skill set and big-play ability.
How Tre Brown will fit with LSU football’s roster
At Old Dominion, Brown found plenty of success in his only season with the Monarchs, quickly becoming a big-play wide out. Brown averaged 20.1 yards per catch as he amassed 762 yards on 38 grabs with four touchdowns.
Arguably the biggest hole on the current LSU staff is at wide receiver and Brown fits in perfectly with how Kiffin wants to operate. Brown will get a chance to play early as the wide out unit will have a number of new faces.
