Former LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier accepts Senior Bowl Invitation

Former LSU football quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has accepted an invitation to the 2026 Senior Bowl, an All-Star game featuring some of the top NFL prospects ahead of the NFL Draft.

Although his senior season didn’t go the way Tigers fans hoped, Nussmeier still has a real shot of being drafted sometime on Day 2 when April rolls around.

That pedigree relies primarily upon his performance in 2024, when he ranked fifth in the country in passing yards and tied for eighth in passing touchdowns while leading an offense that averaged over 30 points per game. Nussmeier wasn’t without his mistakes that season, throwing 12 interceptions, but he showed serious potential that had him in consideration to be selected in the first round of last year’s draft.

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier (18) walks across the field during a college football game between Ole Miss and LSU at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss., on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025. Ole Miss defeated LSU 24-19.

Then, Nussmeier returned, and an injury-plagued season behind a porous offensive line resulted in him being benched. The Senior Bowl is the far more exclusive of the All-Star games, though, so they’re clearly seeing something in the former Tigers quarterback.

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that Nussmeier will be selected in the first round of this year’s draft, but it feels like he will be a late Day 2 or early Day 3 selection. This is especially true given the lack of top-end talent at the position.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper has Nussmeier ranked as his seventh-best quarterback in this year’s draft, behind Oregon’s Dante Moore, Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, Alabama’s Ty Simpson, Oklahoma’s John Mateer, Miami’s Carson Beck, and Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss.
