Could LSU football target elite SEC pass rusher in transfer portal?

Former Georgia and Missouri edge rusher Damon Wilson entered the NCAA Transfer Portal Tuesday afternoon, according to On3. This decision came as a bit of a surprise, as Wilson is in the midst of a legal dispute with Georgia regarding his decision to enter the portal following the 2024 season.

On the field, Wilson is an incredibly impressive player who could flourish in LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker’s defense. He’s totaled 12.5 sacks, 49 tackles and 15.5 tackles for loss across his three seasons, per Sports Reference.

Although LSU had one of the best defenses in the country in 2025, the Tigers’ pass rush was lacking for much of the year and could use some extra juice next season. Wilson could be the player to provide that impact.

Missouri Tigers defensive end Damon Wilson II (8) celebrates after recovering a fumble during the second half against the Alabama Crimson Tide at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium.

That isn’t hyperbole, either. Wilson was one of the SEC’s most productive pass rushers in 2025, with the second-most pressures (54) and fourth-most sacks (9) in the conference, per PFF. He was excellent on a down-to-down basis as well, with the eighth-best pass-rush productivity rating and the 12th-best pass-rush win rate among SEC edges.

His blend of athleticism, power and hand usage translated into strong production against SEC competition as well. Here are those traits on display in his two-sack performance against Alabama:

Wilson didn’t perform as well as a run defender this season, with his 66.2 run defense grade ranking 46th among 63 possible SEC edges, but what he can do as a pass-rusher is too tantalizing to ignore.

There haven’t been any reports connecting Wilson and LSU just yet, but don’t be surprised to see the two parties linked soon.
