Freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon accounted for five touchdowns in his Tennessee football debut against Furman at Neyland Stadium on Sept. 5.

And maybe most importantly was the first touchdown for Brandon. It was the first of his college career.

Brandon recorded his first career touchdown pass on UT's first drive, connecting with tight end Ethan Davis for a 17-yard score at 10:42 mark of the first quarter.

Here's Mike Keith, "The Voice of the Vols," with the call on the Vol Network on Brandon's first touchdown.

"Brandon. Looks. Down the middle. He fires. Complete. Touchdown Tennessee. Ethan Davis. Inside the left hashmark and a bullet thrown by Brandon for the first of what we feel like will be many touchdown passes for Faizon," is how Keith described the play.

No. 18 Tennessee (1-0) won 56-9 against Furman (1-1).

Brandon became just the fourth UT quarterback since 1995 to record three TD passes and two TD runs in the same game. Joshua Dobbs (four times), Joe Milton and Justin Worley were the others.

Brandon also tied a UT freshman record with five TDs of any kind in a single game. Casey Clausen and Tyler Bray had five TD passes in 2000 and 2010, respectively.

Brandon, ranked the No. 3 recruit in the class of 2026, beat out sophomore George MacIntyre during preseason practices to win the Vols' starting quarterback job. UT coach Josh Heupel named Brandon the starter on Aug. 25, making him the 14th true freshman to start at quarterback in program history and the youngest to ever do it.
