BATON ROUGE – The more Ole Miss wins in the College Football Playoff, the more LSU football is in line to pay its new head coach Lane Kiffin.
There could be another payday Thursday night as the Rebels, Kiffin’s former team, faces off against Miami in the CFP semifinals at the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff from State Farm Stadium.
With Ole Miss having won its first two games of the College Football Playoff, LSU is on the hook to pay Kiffin $500,000. Each win earned Kiffin a $250,000 payday and money from his new employer for whom he has not coached a game for yet. That won’t happen for another nine months in September when LSU hosts Clemson for the 2026 season opener.
In Kiffin’s seven-year, $91 million term sheet with LSU, the school agreed to foot the CFP incentive bonuses that he would have been owed in his contract with Ole Miss.
Per the language in the contract, LSU is entitled to pay Kiffin within 30 days of Ole Miss being eliminated from the CFP. If the Rebels can’t get past Miami and advance to the national championship game, then Kiffin’s bonus total tops outs at $500,00. But a win Thursday would bump up the incentive pay to $750,000.
