It should not shock anyone when the Buffs land talked-about names, but the Isaac Wilson portal addition still raises eyebrows. Wilson has three years of eligibility remaining, Wilson could be an interesting addition to this quarterback room.
Most Buffs fans remember Wilsonâs rough day in 2024, when Colorado beat Utah 49â24 and the freshman tossed three interceptions. The full picture is bigger than one afternoon, though. Utah struggled as a team in 2024, and that is where almost all of Wilsonâs snaps came. In 2024 he went 127-for-225 (56.4%) for 1,510 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Itâs safe to say Wilson wonât be starting over JuJu Lewis, but the Buffs may see him as their new backup with Ryan Staub hitting the portal.
Isaac Wilson is the younger brother of Zach Wilson, the quarterback drafted second overall in 2021, and he has grown up around high expectations. For Colorado, this is a bet on tools and development. In Brennan Marionâs offense, quick decisions and accurate intermediate throws matter, and a fresh room can help a young quarterback reset his confidence.
How he fits will play out this spring. At minimum, Wilson adds competition and depth to a room that needs both. At best, he finds the rhythm that was hard to grab in Salt Lake City and established himself as the #2 option at QB. Either way, it is another notable pickup in the portal for the Buffs.
