The transfer portal is far from settled with more than another week to go, and for Michigan football, that can be both a good and a bad thing.
The Wolverines apparently aren't done with attrition, and though he wasn't a player in his only (freshman) year, one of the big future players for the maize and blue was former five-star offensive lineman Ty Haywood. Haywood was a big swing by former head coach Sherrone Moore, who had prioritized him before he committed to Alabama. However, by the time signing day came around in December 2024, Haywood didn't sign with the Crimson Tide, and he ultimately chose Ann Arbor as his destination of choice.
However, on Thursday night, Haywood opted to hit the transfer portal, nearly a week after it had been open.

Though it's a big loss in terms of potential, Haywood wasn't a key player. He saw time in four games with 21 total snaps in that span.
But the ability to see the field had perhaps gotten harder for Haywood, as Evan Link, Blake Frazier, Andrew Sprague, and Jake Guarnera all ended up returning — with the latter two having originally entered into the transfer portal. Perhaps the same can happen with Haywood, but time will tell.
