Canterbury, Marco Island previews for SSAA football playoffs

Friday

Canterbury (6-5) at Glades Day (3-8)

The Canterbury School hosted Marco Island for a high school football game on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025 and won 34-0.

Time: 7 p.m.

What to watch – Canterbury: This is an SSAA Class 2A semifinal. The Cougars opened the postseason with an 86-56 win at Oxbridge Academy last week. Sophomore Banner Brockington had a record-breaking performance, rushing 37 times for 556 yards and nine touchdowns. For the season, the running back has 1,520 rushing yards and has scored 11 touchdowns while averaging 8.4 yards per carry. With a victory, Canterbury would reach the SSAA championship game for the sixth time in its history. The Cougars won 11-man titles in 2018, 2019 and 2023. Glades Day: The Gators defeated Boca Raton Christian, 42-34 in last week’s playoff opener, snapping a four-game losing streak to close the regular season. Junior quarterback Zeth Villarreal rushed for 139 yards and four touchdowns and also passed for 58 yards and another score. Junior running back Ramsey Rimes added 150 rushing yards and one touchdown for Glades Day. The teams have one common opponent this season in Gateway Charter. The Griffins defeated both, shutting out Canterbury 12-0 and edging Glades Day, 29-27.

Marco Island (4-5) at Windemere Prep (6-3)

Time: 1:30 p.m.

What to watch for – Marco Island: This is an SSAA Class 1A semifinal. The Rays earned the first postseason win in the program’s history and their first road victory in seven seasons, with a 35-0 shutout at Babcock last week. Running back Axton Middlebrook rushed for a team-high 104 yards and one touchdown, while Noah Smith added 87 yards and another score. Ryan Winterick added three catches for 58 yards and a touchdown and also returned an interception 34 yards for a score. These two teams faced off in September at Windmere Prep with the host Lakers winning 31-20. Windmere Prep: The Lakers opened the SSAA playoffs with a 41-8 victory over Faith Christian. Senior running back Peyton Hollern rushed for 147 yards and one touchdown while freshman quarterback Ty Tracy passed for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
