Oklahoma Sooners trending for 2027 5-star LB Cooper Witten

The Oklahoma Sooners have gotten off to a tremendous start in the 2027 recruiting class. With 11 commitments, the Sooners rank No. 1 in the nation in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings. Oklahoma is in the mix for one of the best players in the class, linebacker Cooper Witten. On Thursday, the Sooners hired Cooper’s father, Dallas Cowboys legend Jason Witten, as their new tight ends coach.
On Thursday evening, Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman of Rivals and Corey Fravel of Clemson Insider at 247Sports all issued predictions favoring the Oklahoma Sooners in Cooper Witten’s recruitment.
Witten is considered the No. 1 linebacker in the nation, according to Rivals and 247Sports. Rivals has Witten ranked as the No. 10 player in the 2027 recruiting class.
He plays both ways for Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas but will ply his craft on the defensive side of the ball for the Sooners. Witten is a playmaker. He’s adept at forcing fumbles and displays excellent diagnosing ability. Witten is very good at working through the trash in the run game to sniff out the ball carrier and plays with physicality.
The Sooners are contending with a number of big-time programs around the country. Witten holds offers from 28 Power Four programs. In November, he released a top 10 that included Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama.
