A (Carolina) Blue Wave! Shawn Hardie's Betting Recap, Week 11

So we did not get back to .500 this week. In fact, we are now four games under .500, but the process was good, and we had a better record this week than last week. We are going to finish profitably, believe that!

Let’s review this week’s picks.

Best Bets

No. 2 Indiana -13.5 (-130) at Penn State
Result: Indiana 27, Penn State 24❌

When a Nicolas Radicic field goal put the Hoosiers up 20-7 in the third quarter, I thought the rout was on. Credit to Penn State for fighting back, but Omar Cooper Jr.’s entry for Catch of the Year not only prevented the upset, but it helped Fernando Mendoza put one hand on the Heisman Trophy.

Purdue team total under 8.5 (-110) vs. No. 1 Ohio State
Result: Ohio State 34, Purdue 10❌

Foiled by the backdoor cover, as Purdue scored a touchdown with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter to get past the number. It may be time to hop off this Ohio State opponents’ team total bandwagon. Emphasis on may.

Stanford at North Carolina under 43.5 (-115) (Sat. 4:30 pm on The CW)
Result: North Carolina 20, Stanford 15✅

The reports of the demise of the Bill Belichick Era at North Carolina may have been greatly exaggerated.

The offense still leaves a lot to be desired, but the defense has improved: after allowing a combined 72 points to UCF and Clemson in back-to-back games, the Tar Heels have allowed 63 total points in their last four games (15.8 per game).

FBS Deep Dives

Memphis -3.5 (-110) vs. Tulane
Result: Tulane 38, Memphis 32❌

Turns out that line moving from -5.5 to -3.5 was a bellwether after all. Memphis has very likely reserved itself a spot in a particular column I write on Tuesdays.

Boston College +11.5 (-115) vs. SMU
Result: SMU 45, Boston College 13❌

This is what I deserve for picking a team that has not beaten an FBS team this season.

No. 20 Iowa +6.5 (-110) vs. No. 9 Oregon
Result: Oregon 18, Iowa 16✅

I wanted to take the money line at +210, but, like I said on Friday, let’s take baby steps. Good job by the Hawkeyes.

UConn +9.5 (-110) vs. Duke
Result: UConn 37, Duke 34✅

The Ghosts of Letdowns and Lookaheads reared their ugly heads for Duke on Saturday. The Blue Devils can thank Cal and Wake Forest for keeping their ACC title game hopes alive
