The 2026-27 college football season is right around the corner, and the Big 12 Conference is holding its annual Media Days July 7-8 in Frisco, Texas. Arizona is sending seven players to the event along with coach Brent Brennan, a group of Wildcats who best represent what Brennan and his staff are building in the program.
In the lead up to Arizona’s appearance at Media Days on July 8, we’re taking a closer look at each rep. Today’s profile: redshirt junior wide receiver Tre Spivey.
* 2025 Statistics: 23 receptions, 381 receiving yards, seven touchdown receptions, one rushing touchdown
A fan favorite from last season, Spivey became a big play target for Noah Fifita and the offense. It seemed like every time the ball found Spivey, he ended up in the end zone.
“I think that’s the treasure that comes from the amount of repetition, the amount of work we put in with Noah,” said Spivey. “We take a lot of extra time out of our day to go practice, walk through stuff with him.”
While head coach Brent Brennan hopes Spivey continues to find the end zone and make big plays, he values what Spivey brings outside of gameplay.
“One of my favorite things about Tre is he’s an incredible practice player,” said Brennan. “He really goes hard, and it doesn’t matter if he’s feeling a little under the weather or whatever, he likes to compete, and that part of it is a lot of fun.”
The experience that the Chandler native gained last season has given him a confidence boost going into this season. Now, he’s finding ways to be better for the overall goals of the team.
“It was really good for me, and I think that it’s allowed me to go into this season real confident of my abilities,” said Spivey. “So just focusing on the whole game so I can help the team out. That’s the one thing I’ve been focused on this year, is trying to figure out what I can work on for myself that can impact the team in the best way possible.”
Spivey’s playmaking ability was always on display, and it only came down to perfecting the details. Offensive coordinator Seth Doege has seen the dedication from Spivey in fine-tuning the small things, and as a result of it, more passes are going his way.
“He’s gotten to a point where he’s consistently lining up correctly, he’s consistently getting to his depth, he’s consistently winning on routes, he’s consistently going up and attacking the football,” said Doege.
With newcomers like DJ Jordan, Jordan Ross, and Rodney Gallagher III, competition is at an all-time high. That has only pushed Spivey to shine more and it is not surprising anyone.
“That room is a lot of fun, because there’s a lot of intense competition there,” said Brennan. “Tre Spivey, he’s been just a consistent high performer, which is not surprising to anybody.”
Spivey’s focus to get better every day is not seen by just Brennan and Doege, but also by his position coach Bobby Wade. It doesn’t come down to just understanding what he needs to do at his position, but knowing what the other positions are trying to do.
“He’s really focused on wanting to get better, and I appreciate his eagerness in that space,” said Wade. “He’s spending more time in the office. He wants to know more about what other guys are doing on the football field, not just his position. So there’s starting to be a little bit more of an understanding, and I think that’s going to let him kind of settle in and play even faster.”
More explosive and big plays are in store for Spivey going into this season. Wildcat nation should be in for quite the show, as last season he had touchdown receptions of 70 and 57 yards.
