A Penn State football Blue-White Game in 2026? What Matt Campbell said

STATE COLLEGE — It sounds as if Penn State football fans can will get some type of Beaver Stadium experience to end spring practice in April.

Will it look like a traditional Blue-White Game?

New head coach Matt Campbell wasn’t quite ready to provide details during his Wednesday National Signing Day press conference in the stadium.

The intrasquad scrimmage typically ends Penn State’s NCAA-allowed 15 formal workouts.

Campbell did say he believes in the importance for his players to be in their stadium with fans in the spring — that he doesn’t want his expected new quarterback Rocco Becht throwing his first big Beaver Stadium coming in the Sept. 5 season-opener against Marshall.

“We will certainly do something in Beaver Stadium with that final 15th practice,” Campbell said. “What that will look like, probably, will be based a lot on our health and where we’re at at that point …

“I think it’s really important for our kids to be in that stadium with our fans. I don’t want the first time that Rocco Becht throws a pass (in Beaver Stadium) to be his first game in there with fans.”

Campbell said he expects Penn State to release more details next week.

The date and details of the Blue-White Game have always been announced by mid-December, at the latest. Timing, however, has been in flux as the program transitions to Campbell and his new staff.

Planning the event also may continue to be complicated by the ongoing renovations to Beaver Stadium, which began in December of 2024, and aren’t scheduled to be completed for another 18 months. Construction work has affected the surrounding parking lots and grounds, as well.

Events surrounding the game usually include a block party, player autograph session and a stadium 5K run to benefit Special Olympics.

The Blue-White Game began in the early 1950s under head coach Rip Engle and grew into one of the largest-attended spring games in the nation, sometimes attracting more than 70,000 fans.

The game provides an early look at for the 2026 season, which begins on Sept. 5 in Beaver Stadium against Marshall Thundering Herd.

It will conclude the first on-field practice sessions for Campbell and his staff, which began taking over on Dec. 5.
