It’s still spring ball season, and on Wednesday the Buckeyes put the pads on for the first time. Gearing up for another run at a national championship, Ohio State has focused not only on the field, but off as well this spring thanks to recruiting efforts.
While much of the work has been directed at hosting these top prospects, Ohio State also had quite the recruiting pitch on Wednesday for recruits thanks to their annual Pro Day. Welcoming all 32 NFL teams yesterday, there’s not much more the Buckeyes need to say or do when it comes to their brand.
Further proof that this program develops for the next level as good as anyone, Ohio State is showing their top targets that when you come to Columbus, the investment is a wise one. From NFL Draft success to their chances at competing at the highest level each season, the Buckeyes have real momentum going on.
Four-star EDGE sets Ohio State visit
Visits for top targets still being scheduled this spring, Ohio State learned on Wednesday they will play host to a four-star edge rusher next month. A Georgia native, Justin Weeks will be in Columbus for an unofficial visit on April 18 and have a chance to see the many positive aspects the Buckeyes have going.
A class that is already off to a strong start along the defensive line, Larry Johnson is putting in tireless efforts to continue his pursuit of elite players and Weeks fits the mold.
The No. 282 player nationally and the 33rd best defensive lineman in the 2027 class per the 247Sports Composite, Weeks has nearly 30 offers to his name and Ohio State is certainly on that list. Making the most of his time these next few weeks, Justin was able to se Clemson yesterday and has future trips planned to Florida, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Georgia, and Ohio State as mentioned.
The Buckeyes being the current last stop on his spring checklist offers them the chance to leave a lasting impression. As seen time and time again, Ohio State’s staff tends to fare pretty with any visit, but can really extend their lead when being the latest program to host.
Ohio State pegged as landing spot for in-state EDGE
Arguably no better program in Ohio at keeping a pipeline with Ohio State than Cleveland Glenville, the Buckeyes look to be on their way to landing their next in-state Tarblooder product. Receiving a Crystal Ball prediction in their favor for Kaylon Bailey yesterday, Ohio State is one step closer to adding their 2027 class by way of this 6-foot-2, 225 pound defensive lineman.
Nearly 20 offers to his name including Cincinnati, Florida State, Michigan State, Pitt, and others, the Buckeyes have the lead here and may have done enough to close the deal. A three-star per Rivals, Bailey may be an under the radar prospect at the moment, but like those before him, you can trust what you are getting out of Glenville when it comes to their players.
Quick Hits
Another visitor to add to the guest list, on Thursday Ohio State will host Maryland native RJ Cruz III. A 6-foot-3, 270 pound defensive lineman, RJ is not currently ranked via his 247Sports profile, but does hold offers from the likes of Florida State, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, and others.
A trip on his own dime, clearly the mutual interest is there and the Buckeyes may look to get into the mix by sending their own offer out. A class of 2028 prospect, there’s plenty of time for Ohio State to enter this recruitment.
Getting an early start on this recruitment, Ohio State will welcome 2029 target Makai Buchanan for a multi-day stay starting later today. A 5-foot-11, 180 pound athlete, Makai is not yet ranked due to his class status, but already holds nearly 40 offers to his name.
Soon to be one of the top-ranked players regardless of position, the Buckeyes having the chance at hosting him for a weekend trip is a perfect way to leave an impression and get in the mix here. An offer from the staff already extended thanks to running back coach Carlos Locklyn, both parties are building a solid relationship for the long haul and Makai is liking what he sees thus far.
