Aaron Kelton resigns as head football coach at Savannah State University

Savannah State football coach Aaron Kelton has stepped down from his position after leading the Tiger program for the last four seasons, the school announced on Friday, Nov. 14.

Savannah State posted a 4-6 record this year with a 3-5 mark in SIAC play. The Tigers went 16-24 overall and 11-20 in SIAC play during his four-year tenure.

“I would like to thank the players, coaches, alumni and Savannah community for the support they have given me over the last four years,” Kelton said in a press release from the school. “It was an honor to lead the football program and though we didn’t meet the expectations with our record, we have created a foundation that will help lead the players to a successful life after football. I take with me man great memories and relationships … “

Kelton was the 27th coach in SSU’s program history. He came to Savannah from Howard University, where he had been the program’s defensive back coach and recruiting coordinator. He was also Howard’s Interim Head Coach in the 2019 season.

A native of Boston, Mass., Kelton had previous stints as an assistant at Morgan State, and as the head football coach at Shorter University. He also coached at Williams College, Columbia University, Virginia State University, Concord College, Clarion University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
