It was another eventful week here at Irish Breakdown. On Sunday, we recapped the Blue-Gold game and the takeaways we had from Notre Dame this spring. We also covered the commitment of 2027 safety Zayden Gamble. On Monday, we recapped the NFL Draft and the six Fighting Irish alum taken in this year's draft. Then, we previewed our Post-Spring Top 25 rankings and talked through the teams we believed are in contention to win a title this year. We also handed out spring superlatives and gave our state of the union on Notre Dame's quarterback room heading into summer workouts.
Today was another eventful day. We broke down the commitment of 2027 defensive lineman Aidan O'Neil along with the commitment of 2027 quarterback Champ Monds from Florida. We also discussed the state of Notre Dame's recruiting and what's next for this red-hot operation as we get into May. We wrapped up everything with a daily mailbag focused on recruiting. You can list to all of that and more in today's episode of the Irish Breakdown Podcast.

Here are some of the main topics we discussed on today's episode:
On Aidan O'Neil's Commitment…
"This is a highly ranked kid with a very impressive offer list. When you look at the teams that have offered him a scholarship, you can say that it's an impressive list. Obviously Penn State who has done a great job in state. He has offers from Ohio State, Georgia, Oregon, Texas, Indiana, Texas A&M, Michigan, Tennessee and Florida State. It's a big time offer list. Notre Dame got on the board in February a month after Charlie Partridge got hired and they had to play catch up. Once they got on him, they worked to get him on campus for a visit and he came for Junior Day. Notre Dame spent a lot of time with him that weekend and that meant a lot to him."
On Champ Monds' Commitment…
"This kid is built. We saw him in person at one of the practice and we were really impressed with his size. He's a really impressive talent and this is a big time pick up. Before he reclassified and before his injury, he was ranked as the No. 2 overall recruit in the country and the No. 1 quarterback in the country in the 2028 class. To be able to get on him and beat Ohio State for him speaks volumes about the job Notre Dame did. This is a huge, huge win for Notre Dame. What does it say about Champ Monds too considering Notre Dame has two four-star kids committed ahead of him. I think that says a lot about the kind of competitor he is. No doubt about it."
On What's Next For Notre Dame On The Recruiting Trail…
"The board is kind of big at wide receiver right now because they have to close. There's guys they want; Julius Jones Jr. is a guy they've been on and a guy they want. Jackson Coleman is a guy that Notre Dame has gotten in on recently. They like Cade Cooper a lot and want to get in the class. They're still on Matthew Gregory and they've had Miles McAfee on campus and they like him as well. The board is still pretty big and the board is big because they don't have anybody yet. You don't really narrow the board until you get somebody and that's where they're are right now at wide receiver."
