Will the Alabama Crimson Tide be playing in the 2025 College Football Playoff?

That was the question on everyone's minds in the wake of the Tide's ugly 28-7 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Georgia (12-1) held Alabama (10-3) to 209 total yards and only 11 first downs. Gunner Stockton threw for 156 yards and three touchdowns to help the Bulldogs clinch an automatic playoff berth — and the school's 16th SEC championship.

As the result of its 21-point loss, Alabama was left hoping it had done enough during the regular season to win over the CFP selection committee for one of the final at-large berths in the playoff field, regardless of whatever happened in the SEC Championship Game.

Did Alabama make the College Football Playoff?

Alabama made the 2025 College Football Playoff as the No. 9 overall seed in the selection committee's final CFP rankings Sunday.

The Crimson Tide will face the No. 8 seed Oklahoma Sooners in a first-round game on Friday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. CT from Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman. Alabama-Oklahoma will be televised on ABC and ESPN.

It's a rematch from Week 12, when Oklahoma defeated Alabama, 23-21, on Nov. 15 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

It's the first time Alabama has been to the playoff under coach Kalen DeBoer, and it's the ninth time Alabama has made the playoff since the initial four-team CFP debuted in 2014.
