Alabama football SEC championship opponent secured, if Crimson Tide beats Auburn

Alabama football has to beat Auburn to secure a place in the SEC championship game. But if the Crimson Tide wins the Iron Bowl, it now knows which team it would face at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
After Texas A&M’s 27-17 loss to Texas on Nov. 28, Georgia secured its fifth-straight SEC championship game bid. The Bulldogs needed either an Aggies loss or an Alabama loss to make the conference championship game.
Georgia has played in each of the last four SEC finals, and has won two of them: 2022 against LSU, and 2024 against Texas.
Alabama secured a 24-21 win against Georgia on Saturday, Sept. 27, ending the Bulldogs’ 33-game win streak at Sanford Stadium in Athens. Alabama has won three straight against Georgia, last falling to the Bulldogs in the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship.
If Alabama loses to Auburn, Georgia would face Ole Miss, which took a 38-19 win against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.
Alabama football has not played for an SEC championship since 2023. The Crimson Tide has won nine straight in the conference championship game, last falling to Florida in 2008.
The SEC championship will kick off from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta at 3 p.m. CT, Saturday, Dec. 6. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
Alabama will take on Auburn at 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday, Nov. 29 on ABC.
