Alabama football secures 2028 4-star recruit

The Alabama football program got a big recruiting win on Sunday.

According to On3/Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett, Alabama got a commitment from four-star linebacker Tysir Young. Young chose Alabama over other top schools, including Miami, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia, and Rutgers.

Young is the top recruit in his home state (Delaware), and the No. 13 edge recruit in the nation, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 105 overall recruit in the country.

Young is Alabama’s seventh recruit in its 2028 class and is the program’s second-highest recruit in the class.

More high expectations for Alabama this season

The Crimson Tide missed the College Football Playoff in Kalen DeBoer’s first season (2024) and knew that wasn’t an option for the 2025 season. They got back to the CFP last season and beat the Oklahoma Sooners in the first round before losing to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl (CFP quarterfinals).

They’ll try to take another step in the 2026 season, which will be DeBoer’s third at the helm. The Crimson Tide will open the season on Sept. 5 against the East Carolina Pirates before playing their first SEC game on Sept. 12 against the Kentucky Wildcats.

Their schedule will feature some strong matchups, including games against the Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, and Texas A&M Aggies.

DeBoer is 20-8 overall as the Tide’s head coach after compiling a 25-3 record with the Washington Huskies. He led the Huskies to the CFP National Championship Game during the 2023 season before losing to the Michigan Wolverines.

DeBoer also coached the Fresno State Bulldogs for two seasons.
