Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson has been officially listed as a semifinalist for the 2025 Dick Butkus Award.
Lawson has been elite for the majority of the 2025 season. The senior currently has 47 total tackles on the year and a forced fumble, as Lawson has remained as a focal point on the Alabama defense throughout his entire career in Tuscaloosa. The talented linebacker is a Butkus Award semifinalist for the second year in a row, and Lawson will have an excellent shot at becoming a finalist for the first time in his career.
Lawson has played a direct role in Alabama's winning streak since the Week 1 loss. The defensive captain is widely regarded as a top linebacker in all of college football, and many believe that Lawson could be one of the first linebacker prospects to come off the board in the 2026 NFL draft. The senior is one-of-12 linebackers that were named as semifinalists for the Butkus Award following his stellar play during the first eight games of the year, as Lawson will now turn his attention towards Garrett Nussmeier and the LSU Tigers offense.
Lawson will look to become the fifth player in Alabama history to win the Dick Butkus Award, as the linebacker will have an excellent opportunity to continue playing at an elite level against the Tigers on Saturday night.
