Alabama football is still atop the SEC Power Rankings after a defense-heavy win over LSU, while Vanderbilt forged ahead with an overtime win over Auburn that kept the Commodores in the playoff hunt (what?). In a light week of action that had five teams sitting idle, the good teams looked better, the bad looked worse, and the rankings pull no punches.

2. Texas A&M (9-0)

What to know: Aggies are on a roll, and the Gamecocks aren’t about to slow it down.

What to know: Mississippi State still hasn’t tackled RB Nate Frazier (15 yards per carry).
4. Ole Miss (9-1)

This week: vs. Florida
What to know: C’mon, Lane. The Citadel?
5. Texas (7-2)
Last week: 5
This week: at Georgia
What to know: Sark is 0 for 2 against Kirby Smart since joining the league, and a third loss would spoil everything for the Longhorns.
6. Oklahoma (7-2)

This week: at Alabama
What to know: The good news − OU didn’t play, so kicker Tate Sandell’s shorts got no shorter.
7. Vanderbilt (8-2)

This week: Idle
What to know: We’re two weeks from turkey, and Vanderbilt is still in the playoff hunt. And who outside of Knoxville wouldn’t like to see it?
8. Tennessee (6-3)

This week: vs. New Mexico State
What to know: Before facing Diego Pavia’s current team, the Vols get his former team. And at 3-6, they miss him.
9. Missouri (6-3)
Last week: 8
This week: vs. Mississippi State
What to know: ‘Zou is down to its third-string quarterback, and a third-string bowl bid.
10. LSU (5-4)

This week: vs. Arkansas
What to know: Tigers hosting the Razorbacks for the Interim Coach Bowl.
11. Kentucky (4-5)

This week: vs. Tennessee Tech
What to know:Don’t look now, but the ‘Cats could still sneak into a bowl game. Maybe don’t look then, either.
12. Mississippi State (5-5)

What to know: That 4-0 start seems like two years ago.

What to know: All it took to spark the offense was to get Hugh Freeze out of town.
