Things have not exactly gone according to plan for Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide as far as their 2027 recruiting class is concerned.
Alabama has landed 13 commitments thus far, with five-star quarterback Elijah Haven representing the best of the bunch. Otherwise, the Crimson Tide have only bagged commitments from two other four-star prospects: fellow signal-caller Trent Seaborn and wide receiver Osani Gayles.
The remainder of Alabama's commitments for 2027 are of the three-star variety, and currently, the Crimson Tide's recruiting class is ranked 49th in the country.
Considering that 'Bama has posted top-five recruiting classes 19 years in a row, the fact that DeBoer's squad is not even close to the top 25 is wild.
It isn't necessarily the end of the world for Alabama. It can still make some moves to improve its 2027 ranking, and it can also start making a push for 2028 recruits, as well.
On the latter note, Blake Byler of Rivals has reported that the Crimson Tide are "towards the top" for four-star 2028 wide receiver Joshua Parker, who received an offer from Alabama back in March.
Parker has collected 12 offers in total, including California, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.
The six-foot speedster is expected to garner interest from many more schools, so we are still in the early stages of his recruitment.
But the fact that Parker seems more than intrigued by the idea of his taking his talents to Tuscaloosa is certainly encouraging.
The Flowood, Ms. product is the 35th-ranked receiver and the 227th-ranked player overall in the class of 2028. He is also the seventh-ranked player in the state of Mississippi.
Alabama has secured three commitments for 2028, all of whom are three stars: cornerback Braylen Gibbs, quarterback Charles Scott Jr. and linebacker Dustin Henry.
The NIL era has made life tough for the Crimson Tide, who were once the most dominant football program in the country but have since hit the skids.
Alabama won six national championships under Nick Saban, but things took a turn when Saban retired after 2023.
The Tide hired DeBoer to replace him, and since then, 'Bama has gone 20-8. For comparison's sake, Alabama lost eight games total in Saban's five seasons.
