Trailing 24-0 in the second half of the 2026 College Football Playoff Rose Bowl quarterfinal, Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer is making a change at quarterback.

The Crimson Tide put backup signal-caller Austin Mack in place of starter Ty Simpson into the ball game following an Indiana touchdown with 7:46 left in the third quarter, looking for a jolt for its offense.

Before the injury, Simpson had completed 12-of-16 passes for 67 yards. According to the ESPN broadcast, Simpson was struggling with an injury from a hit in the first half, which resulted in a fumble recovery for Indiana.

On his first drive, Mack completed a 34-yard pass to Germie Bernard and added a 13-yard rush to get Alabama into the red zone. The Crimson Tide opted to kick a field goal to avoid a shutout and get the score to 24-3 with 2:44 left in the third quarter.
