Michigan is heavily targeting a 2027 four-star tight end that is currently committed to Alabama.
Colt Lumpris, out of Connecticut powerhouse The Lawrenceville School, returned to Ann Arbor near the end of last month and enjoyed his time with the new coaching staff.
“It was very good,” Lumpris recently told Maize n Brew. “I felt the experience was special and different.”
Penn State, Texas A&M, Florida and Rutgers are also pushing to secure a flip, as the Wolverines look to separate themselves with proper growth on and off the field and relationships.
“I feel that I fit in as a receiving threat. Like their big wide receiver,” Lumpris said. “I feel like they get developed and get the ball.”
Michigan tight ends coach Freddie Whittingham and head coach Kyle Whittingham are leading the way for the program in Lumpris’ recruitment.
“Coach (Freddie) Whitt is a great guy,” Lumpris said. “I love talking with him really about anything. But then as a coach, he will get you to where you need to be. After meeting with head coach (Kyle) Whitt, I feel he’s a great coach off of the conversations I’ve had.”
Up next for Lumpris is his slate of official visits. He is expected to return to Alabama (May 29), Texas A&M, (June 12) and Penn State (June 19). Michigan will also get an opportunity to host him in a couple months.
“I feel like they are definitely in consideration,” Lumpris said. “I’m coming back for an OV June 5-7th.”
