Kentucky hosts Alabama at Kroger Field on Saturday, Sept. 12, with the Crimson Tide as the 10.5-point favorites ahead of a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC. My Alabama vs. Kentucky prediction examines whether the Wildcats can stay within the number.

It's all part of our college football picks.

 TOP PICK
Who will win Alabama vs Kentucky: Kentucky +10.5

I’m willing to take the Kentucky Wildcats at +10.5 and would play them down to +8.5 when they host the Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday.

The market appears to have overreacted to the perceived talent gap, especially with Alabama coming off a strong Week 1 performance and Kentucky entering SEC play.

QB Kenny Minchey looked the part in his team debut, throwing for 301 yards and four touchdowns, while new Kentucky head coach Will Stein brings an offensive pedigree from his time at Oregon

Alabama boasts the superior roster, but this is a difficult road environment for a team with limited returning offensive production. I’ll gladly take the double-digit cushion with Kentucky.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Since head coach Kalen DeBoer took over, 'Bama is just 3-5-1 against the spread as a road favorite, with a -6.9 spread differential.

Alabama vs Kentucky Over/Under pick: Under 49.5

Give me the Under 49.5 (down to 47.5) in a matchup featuring two first-year starting quarterbacks and plenty of incentive to pound the rock. Kentucky ranks 112th nationally in returning offensive production, while Alabama sits 119th, per ESPN's Bill Connelly.

This gives me less confidence that either offense will consistently move the ball against SEC competition. Alabama is also 6-12 Over/Under in SEC games during the DeBoer era, while Connelly's projected score has the Crimson Tide winning 28-19.

Minchey was excellent against Youngstown State, but Alabama represents a significant jump in competition. I expect both teams to lean on their rushing attacks, producing a slower-paced game that stays below 50 points.

Alabama vs Kentucky prop: Under 24.5 first-half points

Based on my projected pace for this game, I feel stronger about the first-half Under than the full-game one. However, there's enough explosiveness on the field, especially with Alabama, that these offenses could eventually erupt. Plus, DeBoer and Stein are offensive-minded coaches.

Regardless, the Crimson Tide have gone Under their team total in five of the school's last six away games, and the squad's early-down EPA/play was in the 91st percentile of college football last week, per GameOnPaper.com.

Alabama vs Kentucky combo

I know you can't "coach your bets," but I'm hoping the Wildcats slow down the tempo and use their offense to play keep-away from the Crimson Tide. By reducing the possessions, Kentucky gives itself a better chance of pulling off an upset, and more importantly, a better opportunity for this combo to hit.

Alabama vs Kentucky combo

  • Kentucky +10.5
  • Under 49.5
  • Under 24.5 first-half points
