If it were up to Cederian Morgan, he’d be suiting up on Thursday at the Rose Bowl.
But as an early signee freshman, the best he can do is watch.
Morgan, an Alexander City native, was ranked the number-three player in the state of Alabama and has already turned heads in his first week of practice with the Crimson Tide.
"I know Cederian has been doing an awesome job over with the scout team for the defense, which is really cool," offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said on Sunday during Rose Bowl prep.
But it wasn’t just Grubb. Alabama’s leading receiver Germie Bernard, who will be heading to the NFL next season, similarly sang the upcoming freshman’s praises.
"He's going to be a great player here,” Bernard said. “I am excited to watch his growth and how he is going to succeed. He's a big receiver, obviously. He listens very well. He takes coaching. He's eager to learn. He's been really, really good giving our guys on scout team a look. It's exciting to see a guy like that come in early. It really helped me in the long run and I think it is going to help him even more elevating his game. I am excited to see his growth.”

What Alabama is getting out of Morgan is a super athlete, standing 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, who has an effortless way about him.
In his high school senior season, he registered over 1,400 receiving yards along with 16 total touchdowns. During the final five games, he was on fire, recording 777 total receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
It’s uncertain if current junior receiver Isaiah Horton stays or heads to the NFL with Bernard, but either way, Morgan will have himself a ton of competition in his freshman season.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer has shown that he’s willing to play freshman if they prove themselves, with Lottie Brooks being the perfect example. Brooks this season came in as a three-star true freshman, and posted 441 receiving yards and his only two touchdowns against Oklahoma in the College Football Playoffs.
We’ll learn more about Morgan as Alabama begins spring camp, but from the looks of it, the Crimson Tide have themselves a gem of an athlete.
