Alabama's Top Recruiting Target Just Caused Quite a Stir

The Alabama Crimson Tide have certainly experienced some tough luck on the recruiting circuit recently, so much so that their 2027 class is slated to be the worst one they've had in two decades. By a colossal margin, too.

Alabama has secured 13 commitments for 2027, with five-star quarterback Elijah Haven being the cream of the crop. It also landed a couple of four-star talents in fellow signal-caller Trent Seaborn and wide receiver Osani Gayles.

Otherwise, the Crimson Tide's other prospects are all of the three-star variety, and their overall class ranks 49th in the nation.

But that could change if Alabama is able to bag five-star receiver Monshun Sales.

Sales is the second-ranked wide out and the eighth-ranked player overall in the class of 2027, via 247 Sports' composite rankings.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound weapon is deciding between 'Bama, Indiana, LSU, Ohio State and Texas, and word on the street is that the Hoosiers are the favorite.

Considering Sales is playing his high-school football at Lawrence North in Indianapolis, that doesn't come as too much of a surprise.

Evidently, Ohio State and Texas are also at the forefront of Sales' mind, with Alabama widely considered to be in the background.

Sales did grow up rooting for the Crimson Tide in Alabama, so perhaps there is still a chance that he decides to choose Kalen DeBoer's squad.

One thing we do know is that Sales is slated to make his decision sometime this month, and over the weekend, he teased his upcoming announcement with an X post showing two clocks and an hourglass.

Clearly, the towering playmaker is planning on revealing his commitment soon, and while many fans in Tuscaloosa are already bracing for the worst, we can't entirely rule out the possibility of Sales picking the Tide.

Of course, the odds do seem to be stacked against Alabama right now, which has been the case for nearly every top 2027 recruit DeBoer has pursued.

The Crimson Tide have boasted top-five recruiting class for 19 years in a row, so the fact that the 2027 class could end up outside of the top 25 is particularly jarring.

We'll see if Sales can flip the script for 'Bama this month.
