Alex Caruso trolls OU football over recent struggles: 'Not in a good spot'

Serving as the first day of school, the 2026-27 Media Day is filled with optimism and lighthearted moments. After a summer filled with offseason change, the Oklahoma City Thunder remain a co-title favorite. The group carried themselves like one at the start of the hopeful nine-month marathon.

One of the funniest moments involved Alex Caruso, though. Egged on by a reporter over Texas A&M's football struggles, he trolled back by bringing up Oklahoma's football struggles as well. As the old saying goes, misery loves company. Both SEC powerhouses are going through some lulls.

"Not in a good spot, that's for sure. Something that I think a lot of people in this area remember kind of getting used to, as well, with the way that OU looks," Caruso joked. "Which is just me deflecting, obviously. Because I want to win with A&M. But there are still a lot of games left. Hopefully, we can play better. That's what I'm looking forward to."

Of course, Caruso spent four collegiate seasons at Texas A&M from 2012-16. Heck, he even went to the high school directly named after it. Every year, you can see him attend Aggies' football games. Especially in the first couple of weeks of the college football season as they intertwine with the end of the NBA offseason.

And then there's the obvious intersection between Thunder and Oklahoma fans. This state loves its college football. The Sooners have been a blueblood program for over a century. Right now, though, things don't look as pretty. It's been constant struggles since they joined the SEC in 2024.

Right now, both Oklahoma and Texas A&M are going through it. The Sooners are 2-2 and looked out of their depth in a 41-13 loss to No. 2 Georgia. Meanwhile, the Aggies are 2-2 and stomached through a similar lopsided experience with a 35-6 loss to No. 6 LSU.

Funny to see Caruso show a little bit of his fandom side of things. He's entering his third season with the Thunder. They're hoping to get a second NBA championship in three years. If that happens, the 32-year-old will surely play a pivotal part in OKC's 2027 NBA playoff run.
