AUBURN — Alex Golesh added another assistant coach to his Auburn football staff Wednesday, Dec. 10, with DeMarcus Van Dyke following Golesh from Tampa to coach cornerbacks on the Plains.
Van Dyke became the seventh hire to Golesh’s staff, and he’s the fifth USF assistant among those, with defensive coordinator DJ Durkin and defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams the only exceptions.
“We are thrilled to bring Coach DVD to Auburn,” Golesh said in a release. “He has an elite ability to build genuine relationships with his players and develop them at the highest level. His NFL experience brings a valuable perspective to our program, and he’s worked and played for some of the best defensive minds in football.”
Van Dyke spent the past two seasons with Golesh and South Florida, after one season at FIU and a five-year stint with Miami, coaching cornerbacks and taking a titled role in recruiting.
Miami was Van Dyke’s alma mater, where he both played football and competed in track. He was a third-round NFL Draft pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2011, and he went on to play six seasons in the NFL, logging time with Atlanta, Kansas City, Minnesota and Pittsburg.
Where does Alex Golesh’s Auburn football staff currently stand?
Officially, Golesh has seven assistant coaches in place and six members of his off-field and front-office staffs set up. It has yet to be officially announced, but Auburn alumnus Kodi Burns will serve as associate head coach for Golesh and likely coach a position.
Coleman Hutzler, who was fired as Mississippi State’s defensive coordinator last week, will reportedly coach edge rushers for Golesh at Auburn.
