USF closed its regular season with a 52–3 win over Rice Saturday that secured the program’s first nine-win campaign since 2017. But even as the Bulls celebrated their late-season victory, head coach Alex Golesh found himself addressing questions about his own future.
Earlier in the week, a report circulated naming Golesh as the next head coach at Arkansas. The rumor was quickly disputed, and after Saturday’s victory, Golesh said again that the report was inaccurate.
“Distractions take away from the main focus of what we’re trying to do, which is win football games,” Golesh said. “I apologized. These guys, I feel, have my back and I have their backs… It wasn’t true, and I told them it wasn’t true.”
Golesh’s rise at USF has made him one of the most talked-about coaches in the Group of Five this season. The Bulls finished 9–3, with losses to Memphis and Navy coming by just a field goal.
Still, Golesh said he has not yet had the time or space to determine what comes next.
“I’ve not had time with my family to process everything that’s going on,” Golesh said. “We’re gonna take some time to process this and figure it out. I will, and I’m gonna make the best decision for the entirety of our organization.”
Golesh declined to offer a timeline but said his players would be the first to know once he makes a decision.
“I owe it to the entire University to process it the right way and think about everybody involved,” Golesh said. “If it was just going to be about me, I would’ve already processed it.”
With USF heading to a bowl game and Golesh’s name firmly in circulation for Power Four openings, the program now enters an uncertain stretch as it awaits its postseason draw.
