‘All hell has broken loose’: College football world reacts to LSU ruling

The college football madness continued Thursday night, as a Louisiana judge ruled LSU transfers Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris are eligible to play after spending the summer in NFL training camps.

Wright and Harris are among the 42 athletes currently suing the NCAA for a fifth year of eligibility. Judge William Jorden’s preliminary injunction prevents the SEC and NCAA from punishing schools who allow these athletes to suit up.

The SEC had previously filed a lawsuit against LSU and head coach Lane Kiffin over the Tigers’ intention to add Wright and Harris, who played for Kiffin at Ole Miss last season before their brief offseason stints in the pros. Now, LSU must decide if it wants to put the duo on their roster for Saturday night’s season opener against Clemson.

‘College sports is a joke’

Again, LSU has to finalize its roster by tomorrow, and the SEC and NCAA are already reportedly preparing to appeal Jorden’s decision. The dueling court orders add a layer of intrigue to the situation.

In the meantime, fans and media exploded after the news broke Thursday night.

“All hell has broken loose,” tweeted longtime broadcaster Trey Wingo.

“Amazing, simply amazing this is where we are in CFB,” a Clemson fan said.

“Back to LSU to play… Saturday? What are we doing? College sports is a joke right now Who can save it?” added sportswriter Joe Schad.

“I’m glad they sided with the kids to let them play and earn their money instead of the suits trying to hold them down,” an LSU fan countered.

“No way they risk it, SEC filed in federal court, lol, in Alabama. If LSU calls their bluff and loses. It could really hurt, not to mention the CFP committee could change their rules. No way LSU risks it,” another person chimed in.

What’s next?

Wright has said he anticipates playing against Clemson Saturday, while ESPN reported on-air Thursday hat Harris may need more time to prepare, but is targeting a return against Ole Miss on Sept. 19.

This is a tremendous amount of drama less than 48 hours before one of the top programs in the country is scheduled to open its season. Stay tuned.
