All hope isn't lost for Colorado football despite recent struggles

The Colorado Buffaloes have fallen into a pit of despair after another blowout loss, this time to the Arizona Wildcats at Folsom Field.

There wasn’t a worse outcome for those looking to stay hopeful about the remainder of the season, as the Wildcats executed Utah’s plan to annihilate the Buffs to perfection. Colorado cycled through four quarterbacks, and with only three games left, their chances at a bowl game are all but dead.

Yet that doesn’t mean there aren’t things to watch for that will keep the Buffs entertaining, so welcome to the ‘Sunny Side.’ A place filled with optimistic thoughts about the Colorado Buffaloes, and where Julian Lewis’ first collegiate touchdown is all we remember from last week.

I’ve got next

One of the lone bright spots, depending on how you look at it, was Lewis’s first extended action in the black and gold. The true freshman finally got the offense moving the ball down the field and ended the day a respectable 9/17 for 121 yards and a touchdown. While he will have to sit for an upcoming game if the Buffs want to retain his redshirt status, Lewis will get the start against West Virginia. Meaning next week will be a glimpse at the future of Colorado football, and it should be a good one.

Play the highlights

Alongside Lewis will be the two most fun players to watch on Colorado: Omarion Miller and Sincere Brown. Both have a pension for getting open downfield and generating explosive plays, which Lewis should be able to take advantage of. Miller continues to impress and is slowly building a case to be a late NFL draft pick, showing off good speed and strong hands at the catch point. Brown is simply faster than everyone else and uses it at least once a game to get wide open, which is always the highlight of the Buffs’ games.

Don’t love me during good times, if you weren’t there for my worst times

There is no doubt in my mind that Colorado cornerback DJ McKinney will be playing at the next level, and if you want to maintain bragging rights of seeing a Buff light it up in the NFL, you’ve got to stick out 2025. While the corner has struggled alongside a defense that has plummeted in recent weeks, he continues to shine in the rare moments when offenses dare test him.

So, you’re telling me there is a chance

Colorado needs to beat West Virginia, Arizona State and Kansas State, with two of those games on the road, to make a bowl game. That should spell disaster, and it likely will, but there’s a very slim chance that Deion Sanders’ squad can eke out two more wins and give themselves a chance at the end of the year to continue their season.

There’s only one way to find out: keep watching and see if the Buffs can do the impossible and pull themselves out of the pit they’ve dug.
