Picking the results of sporting events is hard. It's even harder when the sporting event involves (mostly) kids between the ages of 18 and 22.

But I knew that when I started picking college football games, so I won't use that as an excuse. We need to be better, and starting next week, we will.

Rice +13.5 (-104) vs. No. 25 Memphis
Result: Memphis 38, Rice 14❌

Bad job by me putting this game in best bets.

Penn State team total under 12.5 points (-115) at No. 1 Ohio State
Result: Ohio State 38, Penn State 14❌

I didn't think Penn State would score two touchdowns in The Horseshoe, but it did. I am telling you right now, I am going back to this bet next week against Purdue.

Army at Air Force under 49 (-110)
Result: Army 20, Air Force 17✅

A total in a game involving two service academies shouldn't be anywhere close to 50, the way those schools keep the ball on the ground.  

FBS Deep Dives

Navy +6.5 (+100) at North Texas (Sat. 12 pm on ESPN2)
Result: North Texas 31, Navy 17❌

SMU +12.5 (-120) vs. No. 10 Miami (Sat. 12:00 pm on ESPN)
Result: SMU 26, Miami 20 (OT)✅

It turns out not leaving your state for a football game until the day after Halloween isn't the wisest scheduling approach, after all. 

No. 20 Vanderbilt +3.5 (-120) at No. 9 Texas (Sat. 12 pm on ABC)
Result: Texas 34, Vanderbilt 31❌

What an amazing backdoor cover, which, honestly, should not have happened. I swore Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea (who is my age) would have pulled the classic Madden move and kicked the field goal as soon as the Commodores got into field goal range, as Vandy was down 10 points with under two minutes to go. 

No. 2 Indiana -20.5 (-115) at Maryland
Result: Indiana 55, Maryland 10✅

Again… Curt Cignetti is the Dan Campbell of college football. Shame on me for not making this a best bet.

PS: Indiana finishes the season with Penn State, Wisconsin (LOL) and Purdue (LMAO). The Hoosiers are a good bet to be in this column for the rest of the regular season.

Wake Forest +10 (-109) vs. Florida State
Result: Florida State 42, Wake Forest 7❌

The Seminoles make no sense to me. Next week, they visit Clemson in Death Valley. I am telling you now, I am leaving that game alone.
