Anderson 4-star DB Ace Alston commits to Notre Dame football

Anderson defensive back Ace Alston, one of the top defensive recruits in the class of 2027, has verbally committed to Notre Dame. He made the announcement Dec. 9 in a ceremony at Anderson’s auditorium.

Alston is the Irish's eighth recruit in the class of 2027. ND currently has the fourth-best recruiting class for next year's cycle, according to 247Sports.

He had narrowed his recruitment down to seven schools: Indiana, Louisiana State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Southern California and Tennessee. He had hats for all seven schools during the ceremony.

He is a four-star recruit and ranks as the 11th-best cornerback in the nation, according to 247Sports. He is ranked second in Ohio at the position, and the 115th overall player in the Class of 2027.

According to Andrew Ivins of 247Sports, Alston is an “Instinctive defensive back with natural coverage skills that isn’t afraid to mix things up in run support and has done so while facing top Ohio-based competition. Impressive reaction times and short-area burst allow him to constantly break on the football and make plays at the catch point. Showcases impressive hip turn and lateral quickness as both a man and zone defender. Will work to maintain leverage. Strikes as an open-field tackler and will fight his way through blocks to keep containment on the perimeter.”

This season, he registered 53 tackles (two for loss), two interceptions and a fumble recovery to help the Raptors to a 14-1 record and their second straight Division II state runner-up finish.

He was first-team all-city and all-district, and is likely to be an all-state selection when that list is released on Dec. 10.
