Yet another Penn State staffer is set to leave for Virginia Tech.

Chuck Losey, the former Penn State strength and conditioning coach, is now leaving the Nittany Lions to join James Franklin’s staff. Many expected Losey to be one of the first to leave, as he has always said that James Franklin “was his guy”. Both Losey and Franklin go way back to their time with Vanderbilt and now Losey will continue that line of loyalty to Blacksburg.

“James Franklin is my guy,” Losey said this summer. “Coach Franklin is my guy. I don’t want to work for anybody else in this profession. I know what I’m going to get from him every day. He knows what he’s going to get from me every day. We have a strong relationship. We’re like-minded. We have the same goals. I don’t take that for granted. I’ve got a ton of appreciation for that. I know what this profession has been, [and] have an idea of where it is right now.”

It is unclear if anyone else departed the staff as of yesterday, as the official directory has not yet changed. However, this is the third departure for the Nittany Lions staff, as both Ty Howle and Danny O’Brien have also made the move to Virginia Tech.

There are two potential options to replace Losey on the staff, as Aaron Hillman is the new sports performance manager. Perhaps the hire with the clearer path to Losey’s former title is Reid Kagy, who was the strength coach with the Cyclones and will assume the role for the Nittany Lions.
