Another Texas high school football standout loses eligibility battle

Another Texas high school football player has been ruled ineligible for the 2026 high school football season.

According to Stephen Garcia of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal —part of the USA TODAY Network — Frenship standout running back Bo Davis is ineligible for the upcoming high school football season after he transferred from Lubbock High to Memorial earlier this year.

Davis rushed for 1,349 yards and 16 touchdowns as a sophomore for the Westerners in 2025, earning the Avalanche-Journal's 2025 big-school football newcomer of the year.

Regarding his eligibility, the UIL State Executive Committee reached a stalemate Monday, Aug. 24, voting 2-2 after the District 2-5A Division I Executive Committee previously voted to deny his eligibility.

On Aug. 11, the DEC voted 4-2 that Davis changed schools for athletic purposes, which violates a UIL rule. As a result, Davis will be unable to participate in varsity competition for the Panthers for the 2026 season.

The 2026 fall season marks the first season of varsity football for Frenship.

Georgia commit and five-star QB Colton Nussmeier and five-star cornerback John Meredith III also lost their eligibility cases with the UIL this summer. Nussmeier has since transferred to Archbishop Rummel (Metairie, LA), while Meredith reclassified and will play for Texas this college football season.
