There is no good time for a loss in college football. However, sometimes tasting defeat early in the season works out better than in November. Ask Notre Dame, which is in position for a CFP playoff spot despite losing its first two games. The season continues with Week 11 as teams look to keep their spots in the CFP standings or build a case for why they belong. The tension and rivalries grow deeper and steeper with plenty at stake as college football's regular season heads down the home stretch—time for picks and predictions in games involving AP Top 25 teams.
No. 23 Washington at Wisconsin
The Huskies still have slim CFP playoff hopes. They would have to win out and hope other schools lose. Problem is they also have Oregon in last regular-season game. The Badgers have no hopes and likely will not make a bowl game at 2-6. They are winless in Big Ten play and have Indiana next. Prediction: Washington 31, Wisconsin 17
No. 22 Missouri at No. 3 Texas A&M
Massive game in the SEC as the Aggies home Kyle Field helps them remain undefeated against the two-loss Tigers. The QB matchup is a doozy as Marcel Reed, who has Heisman dreams, goes up against Beau Pribula. The Aggies better not sleep on Ahmad Hardy, who needs 63 yards to go over 1,000 for 2025. Prediction: Texas A&M 27, Missouri 23
No. 9 Oregon at No. 20 Iowa
Intriguing matchup as the Ducks visit the Hawkeyes. Both are 4-1 in conference. The Ducks are poised for a CFP spot at this point. The Hawkeyes have allowed 105 points this season. Oregon has allowed 108. Look for a tight game here with points at a premium. Prediction: Iowa 20, Oregon 17
Northwestern at No. 19 USC
The Wildcats visit a Trojan team that is quietly 6-2 and has won four of five Big Ten games. USC is looking to move up in the rankings and can't slip up here. Prediction: USC 24, Northwestern 17
Syracuse at No. 18 Miami
Syracuse is having a dismal season. The Hurricanes once looked formidable, ferocious and intense. They have slipped badly in losing two games and falling from a CFP position. Carson Beck is making millions for the Hurricanes but has thrown nine picks and is no great shakes. Still, Miami should crush the Orange. Prediction: Miami 37, Syracuse 10
Auburn at No. 16 Vanderbilt
Hugh Freeze is gone and Auburn is in the interim mode as it heads to Vandy. The Commodores fell behind Texas early and the rally in the fourth quarter was way too little too late, unless you took the points. Expect an inspired effort from the Tigers that will keep this close. Prediction: Vanderbilt 27, Auburn 17
Cal at No. 15 Louisville
It will never make sense for Cal to be in the ACC. Realignment is bizarre. A school where education is tough sees this team having made trips to Boston, Virginia Tech, and now Louisville. Jet lag will cost the Golden Bears as the Cardinals shine. Prediction: Louisville 31, Cal 10
Wake Forest at No. 14 Virginia
Wake Forest saw its three-game winning streak end in a stunning 42-7 defeat at Florida State. The Demon Deacons had been competitive in every game before the loss to the Seminoles. Virginia is 8-1 and undefeated in ACC play. However, the Cavs best not be taking Wake lightly and looking ahead to a road game at Duke next week. Prediction: Virginia 23, Wake Forest 20
Navy at No. 10 Notre Dame
Nice to be Notre Dame and an independent. One gets to play the ACC schedule and then against a rival like Navy. The Middies won 10 games last year and lost to ND by 37. They are 7-1 this season coming in and have no shot here. Prediction: Notre Dame 45, Navy 14
No. 7 BYU at No. 8 Texas Tech
Schools are a combined 16-1 and 10-1 in Big 12 play. The lone loss was suffered by Texas Tech against Arizona State. The Red Raiders have no wiggle room if they want to stay in a CFP position. How about TT has outscored its opponents by 273 points while the Cougars are 154 points better than their foes. These schools could actually meet again in the Big 12 Championship Game if Texas Tech wins here. Prediction: BYU 23, Texas Tech 20
The Citadel at No. 6 Ole Miss
The Citadel is 4-5 and has lost to schools like Gardner-Webb, Mercer, and Western Carolina, and Furman. This is a trip to Oxford, where it will face a Lane Kiff-coached team with playoff dreams. It should get ugly. Prediction: Ole Miss 52, The Citadel 0
No. 5 Georgia at Mississippi State
The Bulldogs are 1-4 in conference play with three of the defeats coming by one score. Big knock is the loss to Florida and that they barely got by Arkansas last week. Somehow, Mississippi State finds a way to lose these SEC games against ranked foes. Georgia comes to Starkville on a four-game winning streak but knowing Texas is next. This is the ultimate trap game. Prediction: Mississippi State 27, Georgia 24
LSU at No. 4 Alabama
Don't look for the toothless Tigers of 2025 to derail an Alabama express that is on a big run. Prediction: Alabama 31, LSU 17
No. 2 Indiana at Penn State
It would make Penn State's season if the Nittany Lions can beat the Hoosiers. Hint: They won't. Fernando Mendoza and IU take another victim. Prediction: Indiana 35, Penn State 10
No. 1 Ohio State at Purdue
Julian Sayin and the Buckeyes march through the Boilermakers. No contest. Prediction: Ohio State 37, Purdue 9
