FOOTBALL

Arrowhead 35, Neenah 7

NEENAH – The top-ranked Warhawks (2-0) blew open the game with a 28-point second half to pull away and get the win over the Rockets.

Jebari Craig Jr. had 163 yards rushing on 14 carries with three touchdowns, including a 60-yard sprint early in the fourth quarter. Craig also scored on runs of 3 and 32 yards earlier in the game.

Devin Nettles added 90 yards rushing on 11 carries with a 29-yard touchdown.

Ashton VanBeek had 21 carries for 83 yards and a 1-yard touchdown for the Rockets (0-2).

Freedom 59, Xavier 14

APPLETON – Axzil Eggert rushed 16 times for 170 yards and four touchdowns as the Irish rallied twice from early deficits to roll to the nonconference win.

Freedom was also led by Owen Henkel, who completed 17 of 27 passes for 253 yards and three touchdowns.

Porter Meach put the Hawks on top 7-0 with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Phillip Schmidtke.

After Eggert scored the first of his touchdowns on a 12-yard scamper, Xavier took its last lead of the night when Ben Kappell hauled in a 57-yard touchdown pass from Schmidtke.

But it was all Irish from there, including a 33-point third quarter.

Freedom finished with 480 total yards, including 214 on the ground.

Leading the Hawks was Schmidtke, who completed 10 of 16 passes for 164 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Notre Dame 35, Kaukauna 28

GREEN BAY – Kingston Allen scored five rushing touchdowns and rushed for 453 yards to lead the Tritons to the win over the Ghosts.

Allen’s game-winning touchdown was a 73-yard run in the fourth quarter. He took a snap out of the Wildcat formation, went to his right, broke a tackle and then raced down the sideline and past the rest of Kaukauna’s defense with 4 minutes, 13 seconds remaining.

The Ghosts had a final opportunity to tie the game or go for a two-point conversion and a potential win. But Notre Dame senior linebacker Jonas Berndt ended their hopes with an interception on a fourth down play that started deep in Kaukauna territory with 3:13 left.

Kaukauna’s Ryan Carrel threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more.

The Ghosts forced four turnovers in the game but also turned the ball over twice in the final minutes.

Menasha 46, Mosinee 20

MOSINEE – Keonte Thigpen rushed for three touchdowns and Shamir Senyange had two rushing touchdowns in the Bluejays’ win over Mosinee.

Thigpen scored on runs of 14, 67 and 20 yards, while Senyange had scoring runs of 7 and 9 yards.

Homestead Joust

MEQUON – Xavier went 2-1 on the first day of the tournament.

The Hawks opened with a 25-16, 25-22 loss to Divine Savior Holy Angels before rebounding. Xavier defeated Kettle Moraine Lutheran 25-18, 18-25, 15-10 before knocking off St. Thomas More 23-25, 25-18, 15-10.

The Xavier volleyball team went 2-1 on day 1 of the Homestead Joust.

Leading the Hawks were Lexi Allen with six kills and three blocks; Hope Kaufman with 24 digs and four aces; Lily Renz with 13 digs and two aces; Raya Zurfluh with 37 assists, five kills, 10 digs and two aces; Rose Kendall with 15 kills and three blocks; Taelyn Kiepert with three aces and 16 digs; Allie Gioffredi with five kills and seven blocks; Kayla Fournillier with 15 kills and two blocks; Helayna Krueger with four kills and three blocks; and Bella Daley with four aces and seven kills.

BOYS SOCCER

Luxemburg-Casco 3, Seymour 1

SEYMOUR – Elvin Mendoza scored in the second minute of the game and added two more goals to help propel the Spartans to the nonconference win over the Thunder.

Brayden Maass scored Seymour’s goal.

Adding assists for Luxemburg-Casco were Connor Hart, Wilmer Castellanos and Grant Heurkens.

Carson Koller made five saves in net for the Spartans, while Julian Jaimes made seven saves for Seymour.

Bay Port 6, Appleton West 0

SUAMICO – The Pirates took a commanding 4-0 lead in the first half in their win over the Terrors.

Arrowhead 3, Kimberly 0

HARTLAND – The Warhawks went up 2-0 in the first half and added a third goal in the second half in their win over the Papermakers.

Kimberly fell to 0-1-1 with the loss.
