Clemson caught a break ahead of Saturday night’s matchup with LSU.

Former Ole Miss players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris were left off LSU’s submitted roster, meaning neither will be available against Clemson. Their eligibility had become a late-week storyline after a Louisiana judge opened the door for both former NFL players to potentially return to college football.

Wright, a tight end, had already been practicing with LSU and publicly suggested he expected to play. Harris was never likely to be cleared in time because he had not completed the NCAA’s required five-day acclimation period.

Both players went undrafted earlier this year before signing NFL contracts. Wright spent time with the Eagles and Browns, while Harris signed with the Saints before being released during training camp.

Wright finished his Ole Miss career with 66 catches for 1,029 yards and nine touchdowns. Harris, a 6-foot-8, 335-pound defensive lineman, started every game for the Rebels last season and recorded 58 tackles, nine tackles for loss and three sacks.

The dispute goes well beyond Saturday’s game. SEC schools voted unanimously to prevent players who signed professional contracts from returning to college football, and the league is seeking the ability to enforce that rule in federal court.

Clemson has backed that position and informed LSU that it supports restrictions involving former professional players.

LSU will still have Notre Dame transfer Junior Tuihalamaka available after his eligibility was restored through a separate court ruling. Unlike Wright and Harris, he never signed an NFL contract.

Clemson and LSU are set to kick off at 7:49 p.m. Saturday on ABC.
