Arizona State football coach Kenny Dillingham started his 2026 rebuild by strengthening the skill positions on offense. He's taken care of other positions of need, too, but more additions will be coming.

ASU has 20 transfer portal additions, and that does not include newcomers from community colleges.

Rankings change every day with each new addition for every school. ASU's class was ranked as high as fifth but is now No. 9 in the 247Sports team tally. ASU is ranked behind LSU, Texas, Penn State, Oklahoma State, Mississippi, Texas A&M, Kentucky, and Texas Tech.

Four of the schools ahead of ASU have more commitments, with Oklahoma State having 44 and Penn State 32. The balance of the Penn State class consists of athletes who followed head coach Matt Campbell from Iowa State.

ASU's average recruit ranking is higher than three of the teams ranked ahead of it overall.

The ASU offensive line lost all five players who were starters early in the season, so that was perhaps the biggest area of need to start the portal season. Recent additions there include center Tana Alo-Tupuola, a former starter at Georgia Tech, and tackle Luke Baklenko out of Ohio State.

The Sun Devils are also losing two starting linebackers in Jordan Crook and Keyshaun Elliott, both of whom have exhausted eligibility and declared for the draft. So Colorado State's Owen Long looms as a significant addition. He led all FBS defenders with 152 tackles in 12 games.

ASU is also in need of a placekicker with the departure of senior Jesus Gomez. The Sun Devils landed redshirt senior Carson Smith of Austin Peay, who was previously coached by Jack Nudo, ASU's newly appointed special teams coach.

ASU will still probably be on the lookout for offensive and defensive linemen. It has just one defensive lineman among the new additions, and the Sun Devils are losing six players who were significant contributors.

The Sun Devils made a splash in the first days the portal was open by securing wide receivers Omarion Miller of Colorado and Reed Harris of Boston College, the No. 2 and 4 receivers available in the portal.
